Chapter 24

This was Qin Wei's first time staying in a villa. Although it would be sold in a while, the villa still belonged to her for now, so there was no harm in enjoying it while she could.

When the first ray of morning sun shone through the floor-to-ceiling windows and onto the floor, Qin Wei was already exercising on the treadmill.

Li Yao came in carrying two bags of fresh ingredients, letting himself in. He first went to the kitchen to put down the groceries, then grabbed a bottle of Voss sparkling water and walked over to hand it to her, signaling for her to take off her headphones.

"Did you get the napa cabbage I wanted?"

Seeing him come in, Qin Wei took off her headphones and asked.

Half a month ago, she had been swarmed by onlookers when grocery shopping alone, and the incident had trended. Li Yao ordered her not to go out recklessly, on the condition that he would bring her fresh ingredients every other day, catering to her requests without asking for money.

Li Yao did as told, so Qin Wei didn't break their agreement either.

Anyway, since she had nothing to do at home, and considering her frail health, Qin Wei decided to keep exercising. After all, no matter what she did in the future, having a healthy body was the prerequisite.

For someone like her who had survived a terminal illness, health was truly too important...

"I got everything, now come down first." Li Yao crooked his finger. "Got serious things to discuss with you." "Go ahead, I'm listening," Qin Wei lowered the treadmill speed and took a couple sips of the sparkling water.

Li Yao also didn't insist on talking while leaning on the treadmill handrails.

"The first episode of 'Peach Blossom Spring' aired."

"Oh."

Qin Wei's reaction was indifferent.

Li Yao pretended to be mysterious:

"Guess what the response was like?"

Qin Wei twitched her lips:

"Furious scolding at me, what else could it be?"

Li Yao nodded, but then said:

"Mostly scolding you, but the viewership was decent. Many people got memberships just to watch the full version and scold you!"

Qin Wei rolled her eyes at him:

"Why do you sound so proud?"

"Of course!" Li Yao's eyes lit up at this point, "There's no such thing as bad publicity. So many people scolding you means you're not washed up yet, there's still a chance. So you should reconsider your decision to retire from the industry?"

Qin Wei paused the treadmill and got off, not wanting to hear his nagging. She said to him:

"Retiring is a must. What normal person wants to be cursed at everyday? I'm not short on money either, why suffer this?... Right, has the production team settled the payment?" "Next week, around when the next episode airs, we should be able to settle. Qin Wei, I suggest you think it through again..."

Qin Wei cut him off:

"Are you having lunch at my place today? I'm making bacon chicken breasts and veggie wraps today. If you want some, I'll add more veggies."

Li Yao gave up persuading her, since it was futile. He then said:

"I'll eat. But little majesty, when did you learn to cook? And you've been working out? Look at your arms, they're getting muscular. Didn't you say a fairy's arms can't be too thick..."

"Either eat or get lost, stop yammering..."

...

Another week passed.

When the second episode aired, Qin Wei stared at her phone eagerly waiting for the 3 million transfer. She just wanted to experience what it felt like having 3 million hit her account.

But the transfer didn't come no matter how long she waited. Instead, she got a call from Li Yao.

"Little majesty, I have good news to tell you. The episode aired, and the online reviews of you weren't bad this time. Didn't expect that aside from shucking corn, you could also fix cars."

Qin Wei thought back and indeed had fixed a car, but that wasn't important. What was important was the money.

"The director just called me too. He said if feedback keeps getting better next episode, they'll have you as a regular next season."

Qin Wei didn't have much interest in this:

"No need, thanks. I'm set on retiring... Speaking of which, shouldn't you guys settle my payment by now?"
